“For two years following the German annexation, Chinese Consul in Vienna Feng Shan Ho (何鳳山) issued visas to any Jew who requested one. He knew that Chinese visas to Shanghai were actually used as means for people to get to the US, England and other destinations. Under Japanese occupation, Shanghai did not require a visa for entry, but a visa - as proof of destination - was necessary for Jews to leave Austria.
China’s position was not consistent in the issuing of visas to Jews. Consul General Ho’s immediate supervisor, Chen Jia, The Chinese ambassador in Berlin, was adamantly opposed to giving visas to Jews. He wanted good diplomatic relations with Germany and did not want to undermine Hitler’s anti-Semitic policy. Having learned that the Chinese Consul in Vienna was issuing a large numbers of visas to Jews, Chen Jia called Ho by telephone and ordered him to discontinue this practice. But Ho countered by saying that the Chinese foreign ministry’s orders were to maintain a liberal policy in this regard. This so angered the Ambassador that he sent his subordinate to Vienna on the pretext of investigating rumors that the Consul was selling visas.
The investigator arrived unannounced from Berlin and finding no evidence of wrongdoing, returned to Berlin. He was never heard from again. In December 1938, 7000 Jews crossed the border into Switzerland and Italy. Many of them were carrying Chinese visas.”

Everlane has their new spring collection of bows up. I’m hard pressed to remember the last time I saw a Glen Plaid bow that wasn’t upwards of $100. This one is $35; a little on the upper spectrum for this guy but, I see this one being very versatile. I might just jump on it. No matter how much the eGents push it the bow is quickly fading into hat territory, gasp costume!
Any Questions from the new followers?
Last year was a crazy year between, lay-offs, firings, job hunting, and realizing I need to follow my passion. I’d rather not work crazy hours like I used to do and hate every moment of it. I decided to focus my free time on making my own way and my own business. I always had that in the back of my head and now I decided to actualize it and make it happen. I’m definitely not as well off as I was but I’m heading in a place I want to be. I’m doing something I love. I still have to clock in at a job to pay the bills but it’s just that. No working at home, no 65 hour work weeks doing paper work, no answering to an incompetent general manager with no education to speak of and poor speaking skills, no BS! Just me my ideas, my passion, and hard work. It has been a crazy ride, it isn’t over yet, I’ve enjoyed most of it. It is true, if you do what you love it isn’t work. Now when I’m up for 2 days in a row I’m okay with it. In the past it hurt my body and my will to continue.
Back to the menswear:
Some arm candy; sterling ball cufflinks I picked up on eBay. They need to be cleaned the tarnish and patina on them is crazy. That’s a navy DB blazer with gold buttons. I need a few buttons tightened and a re pressing of it to freshen it up. Not bad for pulling it out of the closet and wearing it straight from the bag.
Man I’ve been gone from this blog for a long time. Thank you new followers for offering me some inspiration. Here’s a bone for ya.
My most hated on item of clothing my pink Brooks Brothers pants.
